About Me

I am a native of Forsyth County, Cumming Georgia, where I was raised and went to school. After high school I went to the University of Georgia and earned my Bachelor Degree in Music Education. At the University of Georgia my main instrument was the oboe and I marched in the University of Georgia's Red Coat Marching Band playing the piccolo. After graduation I landed my first teaching position at Cumming Elementary School in Forsyth County for 2 1/2 years before transferring to Fulton County. I have now been teaching at Dolvin Elementary since 2004. I have been elected by my colleagues as one of the Honor Teachers of the Year in 2007 and 2011, 2015, and named Teacher of the Year this year!  I earned my master's degree in Educational Technology from Central Michigan University. I have been asked to host professional learning opportunities for the Fulton County elementary music educators focusing on incorporating music technology into the classroom as well as presenting to the county CSTs what rigor looks like in the music room. Additionally, I serve as a member of the Fulton County VanguardTeam which has enabled me to work alongside with classroom teachers toward transforming their classroom into a global community and personalize student learning. I have been asked to present on behalf of Quaver Music from the teacher’s perspective at the National Music Conference, NW in 2014.  I was also featured as Quaver's first ever Teacher Feature on their webinar series. I have also presented at the Fulton County Summer Summit and Building Our Future leadership kick-off meeting on Personalized Professional Development for teachers through the idea of a “Get & Go, Stay & Play”.  I have been selected to present for GaETC on Nearpod and personalized learning as well as PBL across the disciplines. This year I am scheduled to present at GMEA rigor in the Music Classroom and App Smashing in the music room.  I look forward to my future presentation at ISTE and the Nearpod PioNear crew in 2016.  I will be leading a repeat session from GaETC for the Fulton County PL department on Nearpod.  I am currently working closely with the Quaver Music Team to correlate the GA State Standards with their curriculum.  Music history is an interest of mine; therefore, I began writing children stories based on music history.  My first published book is "In the Hall of the Mountain King".  I am Orff Level 1 Certified and completed my Teaching Guitar Level 1 course.  As a fan of technology, I am involved with various companies and serve as a certified trainer for Nearpod and a certified PD for Symbaloo. I am listed as an ambassador for TouchCast, Seesaw, Edmodo, and WonderBox. I have feature blog posts on Nearpod, Quaver's Marvelous World of Music, and Edmodo blogs. I am both thrilled and honored to be selected as a winner of the Atlanta Families' Award of Excellence in Education. I am the co-team leader for Dolvin Elementary School's Relay for Life Team, and led Dolvin in community service and charitable events. Team Dolvin has earned top fundraiser and best campsite since 2010. Music is my passion and I am thrilled I have the opportunity to share my knowledge and love of music with our youth.
